Ecuador Tourism 'investing' US$ 3.8 million on a Superbowl commercial
Well, it was hot just Katy Perry who was the headline performer at the Super Bowl this Sunday. There was another ’one.’ It is a little South American country – Ecuador.
In the midst of all the advertisements of potato chips, beer, or GoDaddys, Ecuador would make history by becoming the very first foreign nation to have a tourism advertisement during Super Bowl.
The thirty second advertisement would be to the tune of All You Need Is Love, the popular tune by The Beatles, as it is part of a greater ‘All You Need Is Ecuador’ campaign targeted at American tourists.
This could actually surprise a lot of people that a nation of just 15.7 million people would like to spend US$ 3.8 million for the commercial. However, this is not false. Ecuador is actually spending billions and billions on improving their travel infrastructure, as well as the United States is the country’s second biggest tourist market, just next to Colombia.
Nathalie Cely, Ecuador’s ambassador to the United States, spoke to Yahoo Travel and said that the United States’ tourism has developed four percent a year for the past ten years, and the nation wants to double that over the next 5 years. The country told that if they see just one percent development in the number of United States visitors to Ecuador, it would cover the money spent on the advertisement.
Cely added that they have been sort of shy the last 10 years about promoting their country, which she believe is really beautiful and unique.
